This ITGS Project Process diagram outlines step-by-step what must be followed in order to develop an ITGS project.

Screencast from the final products are required for all products from May 2013 examination session onwards.

"From May 2013 all projects will require a screencast that demonstrates the product functioning and highlights the complex techniques that have been identified at the start of criterion E. The screencast does not need to be edited and is not counted as an advanced technique." (Guidance on the appropriateness and complexity of an IT solution for the project, OCC ITGS Homepage)

Students are required to use the file for their ITGS Project.

Sample ITGS Projects

There are six sample projects posted in the Teacher Support Material on the OCC as part of the resource material.
Two of the projects are not showing all of their features (Example 1 Keith Findlater Photography, Example 6: Spanish in Vienna) in the TSM.

These project examples and also additional project examples are provided below.

Example 1: Keith Findlater Photography

The animation is missing when opening images on the TSM on the OCC.
Teachers have access to the zipped file from the OCC must be used when viewing the product.
Students need to be reminded about IB Academic Honesty policy and that this exemplar is not be be copied.

Example 6: Spanish in Vienna with Music

Basketball Promotion

Problem: lack of attendance at games and need for advertising/ promotion
Approach: modelled after Nike ads where the basketball players look exceptional

The advanced skills were:
  • filming of the digital footage with appropriate lighting, background and sound recording to create the best footage possible for the editing process. This included the settings on the camera, use of external microphones and tripod.
  • editing of the video footage to achieve a professional-like quality as the Nike commercial including creating effects of speeding up actions, multiple shots in the basket, fast dribbling, etc.
  • timing of music to video

Additional features (not advanced)
  • animation used in titling
  • quick transitions to keep the action of the film flowing
  • use of multiple tracks for sound and music
  • sufficient length to deliver the content required

Visualizing sort algorithms

The Computer Science teacher requires a visual way that students can observe and understand how the various sorting algorithms function. A website using java applets and providing both a description and algorithms for the various sorting methods was developed by a student who was concurrently taking both ITGS and Computer Science. The use of a programming language is not taught in ITGS, but can be used in the development of an ITGS project.
