PROJECT: How to export a wiki (i.e. Wikispaces)

Note: the Appropriateness and Complexity of the wiki would need to emerge from the use of programming and/or code in increasing the functionality on pages or from using complex elements in the content. In general, wikis on their own are not complex.

Since Wikispaces does not export with the left frame with all of the links, there are two approaches that can be used:
1. Go to Manage Wiki --> Export and export the website. Then create a left frame and link all of the pages to the left frame. This is alot of work for a website that will reside online.

2. Recommended:
  • Create a page called index.
  • Save it.
  • Go to edit navigation under the left frame and add index as the last entry.
  • Link it to the page, copy the entire left frame and save.
  • Paste all of the links below.
  • When the wiki website is exported (Manage Wiki-->Exports), this page will export as well and serve as the offline navigation for the website.

When submitting the wikispaces website on a CD-ROM/DVD:
  • the zip file needs to be decompressed
  • the index page needs to be linked to the cover page
  • the URL of the actual wiki needs to be linked to the cover page as well.

An example of how the left frame can be easily copied on a wiki page is demonstrated below. Do not forget to create this on a page called Index and list Index as the last item.
